Navigating Political Tides: TikTok and Trump’s Rollercoaster Ride

July 29, 2024

Recently, a photo of Donald Trump has once again captured the public’s attention. His heroic actions have significantly boosted his approval ratings in several states. Although the election is a few months away, there are various signs that Trump is taking firm steps towards victory.

Trump’s TikTok Standoff

During his era of presidency back in 2020, Trump has repeatedly questioned the Chinese social media platform TikTok on policy. Trump considered banning TikTok, believing that it posed a threat to national security. ByteDance, the owner of TikTok, initially planned to sell parts of its business to U.S. companies to avoid a total ban.

However, TikTok subsequently filed legal action challenging Trump’s orders. In August 2020, the lawsuit attracted widespread attention, with TikTok accusing Trump of trying to increase his re-election chances by targeting China’s protectionist trade policies through the executive order.

In June 2021, as Biden took into office, the Trump-era ban on TikTok was reversed and Biden took more prudent measures, requiring a comprehensive review of the application of foreign controls to ensure that they do not pose a threat to U.S. national security.

Now, as Election Day approaches, Trump’s attitude towards TikTok has again raised eyebrows. Although he has threatened to ban TikTok, he recently expressed support for the platform and joined as a user. Even though Trump once called TikTok a threat, but he also joined TikTok last month, holding a number of 9.1 million followers. Trump’s policy changes not only affect TikTok’s development in the United States, but also highlight ByteDance’s role and influence in this process.

ByteDance’s Strategic Maneuvers

ByteDance, as the parent company of TikTok, has experienced the impact of the pressure from the ban to the policy adjustments of Trump. They work hard to defend their foothold in the U.S. market through legal means and public relations and work to maintain the stability of their business around the world. Trump’s policy changes have drawn much attention to ByteDance’s position and strategic adjustments in the global digital economy.

This series of events not only affected the operation and development of TikTok, but also reflected the challenges and changes of ByteDance as a multinational technology company in the global political and business environment.

After the policy adjustments during the Trump-era, ByteDance further strengthened communication and cooperation with the U.S. government and industry. They actively pursue compliance paths in the United States and negotiate with government agencies to ensure their sustainable development in the U.S. market. At the same time, ByteDance has also increased its investment in data privacy and national security in response to the concerns of the U.S. government and the public about the security of TikTok.

Future Prospects of TikTok

In the future, ByteDance will continue to face challenges and opportunities in the global market. They will continue to be committed to promoting the continued growth of TikTok’s global influence and user base through technological innovation and global cooperation
