Is Your Workforce Ready for AI?

January 24, 2025

A global survey conducted by Slack reveals that most executives are planning to invest in artificial intelligence, with 72% indicating they will prioritize significant AI investments. Additionally, nearly all executives (97%) express some degree of urgency to integrate generative AI into their business operations.

The survey, conducted in 2024, gathered insights from 17,372 workers across 15 countries, including Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the UK, and the US.

According to Slack’s findings, AI adoption among desk workers has seen steady growth globally, increasing from 20% in September 2023 to 32% by March 2024. However, in recent months, this growth has slowed in some regions. For example, AI usage among desk workers in France grew by only 2% (from 31% to 33%), while the US saw a marginal 1% increase (from 32% to 33%).

At the same time, enthusiasm for AI appears to be waning, with the global excitement level dropping from 47% to 41%. This decline is particularly noticeable in the US, where the percentage of workers excited about AI assisting them at work fell from 45% to 36%—a 9-point decrease. Similarly, France experienced a 12-point drop in excitement (from 53% to 41%), with declines also seen in Japan and the UK.

Slack highlighted several factors contributing to the slowdown in AI adoption, including uncertainty about AI norms, skepticism regarding its current capabilities, and a widespread lack of adequate AI training.

Takeaway:
While businesses are eager to invest in AI, with many executives prioritizing its integration into operations, the pace of adoption and enthusiasm among employees is slowing. This highlights a critical gap between organizational ambitions and employee readiness, largely driven by insufficient training, skepticism, and cultural hesitations.

Conclusion:
For AI to reach its full potential in transforming business operations, organizations must go beyond mere investment. They need to foster a supportive environment that addresses employee concerns, offers comprehensive AI training, and demonstrates clear value in everyday workflows. By bridging the gap between technology and the workforce, companies can ensure sustainable adoption and success in their AI initiatives.
