Q&A: The Importance of Having a Cultural Staffing Partner

9月 3, 2021
Q&A Interview

In our latest interview, we sat down with Jo Wang, Account Executive and Marketing Analyst with Comrise, who spotlighted the importance of having a cultural staffing partner, how she helps her clients win, and the value that bicultural teams bring to organizations.

Erica DiNapoli: You have a very strong educational background. Could you share a little bit about where you attended university, both in the U.S and China?

Jo Wang: I received my Bachelors Degree in Advertising from Peking University in Beijing, China. I then received my Masters Degree in Marketing from NYU.

Erica DiNapoli: When interviewing with Comrise back in 2019, what stood out to you the most? How did you know that this organization would be a perfect fit for you?

Jo Wang: The moment I stepped foot into the Comrise office for my interview, I felt a different vibe. The marketing team gave me a very warm welcome. Although I was not employed by them at the time, I felt like I was part of the team. I never got this feeling anywhere else during an interview stage.

I also had a very pleasant conversation with the U.S President, Chris Ciulla. After the interview, he introduced me to the incredible Cross-Border team and had a colleague from my hometown in China walk me out of the office. That was very special to me.

Comrise has over 35 years of experience in the staffing industry and has positioned itself as a leader in the cross-border business. There are locations in the U.S, China, Philippines, and Malaysia. With my strong bicultural background, I believed that I could add value and help the global business grow.

Erica DiNapoli and Jo Wang

Erica DiNapoli: In addition to being on the Marketing team, you are also an Account Executive with Comrise. How do you help your clients win?

Jo Wang: As an Account Executive at Comrise, I work directly with clients. I learn about their hiring needs, working procedures, and their typical requirements. I then ensure that our Recruiters are on the same page.

It’s paramount to understand what your clients want and need. What are their pain points? How can we leverage our expertise to help them resolve these problems? Ultimately, communication is key.

We need to constantly follow-up with our clients and ensure that all parties are always on the same page. It’s also critical to be transparent about our progress and our candidates.

Erica DiNapoli: How do you help your clients find top bicultural talent, while also mitigating risks?

Jo Wang: As a cultural staffing partner, we have a strong global team that helps our clients find top bicultural talent. And I believe we have a big advantage of doing so. For example, we understand how to speak with candidates who have different backgrounds and we know where to find them. We also stay up-to-date on relevant laws and regulations and apply them to company practices.

Erica DiNapoli: Could you spotlight the value and critical importance of bicultural teams?

Jo Wang: We have an international team based in our U.S headquarters. When you work on a team that has a diverse background, there is so much that you can learn from your colleagues. You will gain a deeper understanding of overseas markets, along with different perspectives, which will help you make better business decisions. In addition, working with bicultural talent gives you sparkling ideas when solving problems and an opportunity to improve your cross-cultural communication skills.

Comrise’s Cross-Border Services addresses the critical hiring complexities typically faced by multinational corporations headquartered in either the U.S or Greater China Area that have the goal of expanding their business into other regions. We work with both local and global professionals to provide you with the essentials your business needs.
