Revealed: Core Teams Behind the World’s Top 10 AI Models!

May 28, 2024

In recent years, large models like GPT-4 and ChatGPT have achieved remarkable results. They have reached or even surpassed human levels on certain natural language processing tasks. As these models and other AI technologies drive industrial transformation, the demand for AI-skilled talent has dramatically increased across industries.

According to AMiner’s “Analysis Report on the Core Team Members of Ten Large Models Worldwide,” there are 968 core members in the 2023 teams. These teams are spread across models like GPT, Bert, T5, PaLM, Gemini, LLaMA, Falcon, GLM, and Qwen.

The age distribution characteristics are significant. Specifically, in China, core members aged 40 and under make up as high as 84% of the total; this compares to 67% in the United States and 69% globally. Additionally, data shows that among the 968 members, there is an obvious trend of younger people. Consequently, the Chinese core members tend to be younger, which illustrates the strong focus of China’s large model team on emerging forces.

Judging from data, the educational backgrounds of these members are mainly concentrated in world-renown universities. There are 573 members, accounting for 59.2%, from universities in the US, the UK, China and India. There are 207 members who went to University of California and Stanford University, accounting for 11.7% and 9.7%. This shows that these two major institutions have an important position in cultivating top talents in the AI field. In addition, Tsinghua University, ranked 7thglobally, also contributed 48 talents, accounting for 5%. 21 talents went to Indian Institute of Technology, accounting for 2.2%. Generally, major universities around the world actively provide talents for the field of AI, providing a solid academic foundation for the development of models.

Pre-trained language models like GPT-4 and ChatGPT have achieved breakthrough results in natural language processing. Consequently, these results highlight the rapid development of AI technology. Furthermore, major universities worldwide are actively cultivating talent in these fields, thereby providing a solid academic foundation for developing large models. Additionally, the trend of younger members indicates that China attaches great importance to young people in this field. Meanwhile, the science and technology industry is continuously improving, alongside the quality of education. As a result, more talents are contributing to global scientific and technological innovations.
