How To Ace Your Video Interview
At Comrise, we prepare our candidates and consultants for career success before and after the interview. As a result, we’ve prepared a few tips and tricks to help you ace your next video interview!
Pro Tip: For video interviews, providing a more detailed response allows you to highlight your best skills and expertise.
1. Find a Quiet and Neutral Setting
Find a quiet and distraction-free place. Make sure the area is well-lit. A neutral setting is best, with no personal photos or people in the background. This ensures that the main focus is on you, and providing the interviewer the opportunity to engage with you directly, as opposed to getting distracted by your interview setting.
2. Check Your Internet Connection
A stable internet connection is key to ensuring there are no disruptions or audio quality issues. Try preparing this ahead of time, similar to your interview setup. If your video interview is scheduled via Zoom, WeChat, or Google Hangouts send yourself a test video invite so you can see how the lighting and internet connection works in real-time. Preparation is essential!
3. Be Professional
Similar to an in-person interview, you want to look the part and make a great impression. Dress professionally, avoid looking at your phone or papers, and limit the use of too many hand motions or eye contact.
Pro tip: Good posture also helps you appear more confident and professional during an interview.
4. Highlight Your Top Skills
Unlike phone interviews, simply stating that you have five years of experience is not enough. For example, you may want to discuss how you’ve applied your top skills and why your efforts brought success to your previous employer. Remember, this is your opportunity to make yourself stand out among other candidates, it’s also helpful for you to demonstrate initiative. Don’t be afraid to do research the company prior to your interview, prepare a few follow-up questions in advance.
