As of 2020, many companies have adopted a new way to host team meetings, this includes video conferencing. Our recruiters and account executives prepare our candidates for all types of interviews, including video chats. With our expertise, we’ve compiled the top 5 things to never do doing your next video conference so you can be prepared and professional with every meeting.
1. Late to the meeting
If you know you will be delayed or cannot make it to the video conference. You should always give your team members a heads up and explain the reason. Being punctual will help keep your team members informed and prepared to arrange the meeting more efficiently.
2. Texting On The Phone
When utilizing video conferencing or any meeting, it’s important to avoid texting on your phone. You should give your full attention to your team and be respectful of the meeting host.
3. Wearing PJs To The Meeting
Be professional. Working from home does not mean you can show up at the video conference in your PJs. We recommend dressing business casual, or if you have an important check-in with a client, don’t shy away from dressing up. This portrays professionalism, both as an individual and a representative of your company.
4. Having a messy background
Try to find a white background or a simple background that does not draw unnecessary attention away from the meeting. Sit outside on your porch, inside in your home office, or anywhere where there are simple and clean backgrounds for the video conference.
5. Making noise during the video conference.
Mute your microphone when you are not talking. Distracting noises in the background, while other team members are talking is a major distraction and extends the meeting time.
