In part two of this article series, Comrise BU Manager, Betty Tao, explains how recruitment process outsourcing (RPO) resolves the challenges that global companies face when hiring.

The strategy

One of my big realizations having been exposed to 6 Major Modules of HR is the importance of aligning them to the long term goal as well as the strategic direction of the organization when it comes to recruitment. This is the same reason leadership in companies are placing more emphasis on the development of strategic HR departments and solutions.

Internal and External Approach

The intuitive approach of recruitment is combining both internal and external approaches. The engagement of external recruitment services is meant to resolve internal hiring challenges. There are plenty of recruitment solution in the market place we will hear an HRO, BPO, RPO, Contractor, HR outsourcing, and the list goes one – the question lies if HR practitioner truly knows which is the best option for their organization.

Identifying The Challenges

The majority of clients have shared that their challenges, including the pressure of hiring quickly without full collaboration in managing HR.  The collaboration here is equally important, and successfully hiring top talent that fit the organizations’ needs.

There is still misconception over the true meaning of RPO. Essentially, RPO provides a lot of recruitment service methods and contents, so it will conduct long-term strategic cooperation based on the different needs of enterprises. In reality, RPO is a  highly consultative and customizable solution whose purpose is served far beyond mere cost savings. As a RPO practitioner, Comrise provides consultative and advisory approaches to provide a solution to business challenges.

Difference between RPO and recruiting 

Recruitment Process Outsourcing (RPO) is an HR solution where enterprises outsource their Recruitment related needs to a third party professional service provider (RPO vendors)to manage the overall Recruitment Process within the enterprise. In actual fact, RPO service is a form of human resources outsourcing (HRO). The biggest differentiation between RPO and recruiting or staffing services is that it RPO provides a fully customizable, scalable, and flexible recruitment process from the “end to end” perspective.  With a significant emphasis on the cooperation between the client and the vendor.

RPO services are a global solution

Overall, RPO is a common trend in the international marketplace. About 85% of enterprises in the United States are engaged in outsourcing human resources services. As of October 2010, most of the global top 500 enterprises have adopted this service to assist in various recruitment tasks. While many would negotiate for a cheaper fee when considering RPO, the early foreign enterprises that adopt RPO have experienced phenomenal benefits of building a better corporate brand, saving time and resources in bringing in the right talent to the organization which ultimately contribute positively to the business performance. At present, RPO is a critical component of the Total HR solution.
