Recruiter Perspective: Advice To New Recruiters

9月 18, 2019

At Comrise, we prepare our employees to succeed in all aspects of the job, including new professionals in the industry. This week, we sat down with Brittany Hughes, the latest edition to our recruiting team, to discuss Comrise training process, advice to new recruiters in the industry, and her perspective on the organization.

How was Comrise training process for you?
Comrise approach to training is very collaborative in the way that they prepare new employees. On my first day, I received a training schedule which is structured as an open plan. As a new employee, I would personally reach out to each leader and training facilitator to see what would work for their schedule, this includes our teams in the U.S and the Philippines. Since I was still getting to know the team, it was nice to be able to introduce myself to each member in this way. Being new to the company, this was a great way to jumpstart the process and I got a lot out of this structure of training, met some awesome people, and learned a lot. Comrise training process encourages employees to be more responsible as the training schedule is entirely up to you to get it completed within the timeframe. I believe it teaches a sense of ownership and helps you establish a good foundation for your work here at Comrise.

What advice would you give to junior-level recruiters or recruiters starting out in their careers?
I’m still early in my career as a recruiter and feel like in the span of 6 months I have learned so much about the job, industry, and the opportunities recruiting provides for candidates. The most important thing starting out is to ask questions, take notes, and to figure out what works best for you. This job requires a lot of self-motivation and drive and you also need to have a passion for your work. On another note, it is of much importance to understand the impact recruiting has on other individuals. For example, on the candidate perspective, you need to have a passion for helping people as this job is very candidate-focused. Recruiting is a service job just as much as it is a sales and business job, you are helping candidates just as much as you are connecting people with jobs. I would say for a new recruiter coming into it it’s important to keep your focus clear and keep the focus of your job without losing track. It’s easy to get caught up with the mindset of needing to complete various tasks in a short amount of time, however,  the quality of it is determined by getting people jobs and getting people hired.

How does Comrise set the foundation for goals within the organization?
The cool thing about Comrise is that it’s so collaborative, of course, we all have our own goals but at the end of the week, it’s a team goal. For personal and professional goals, I come in every day with a notebook where I start my day by writing my top priorities and any tasks that need to be completed. I feel more accomplished in this way as I can always refer to past days to see progress and to check back on what has worked for me and the team so far. With Comrise, my ideas and business solutions are encouraged which allows me to prioritize my goals accordingly. Just recently, I set a goal for myself to provide the team with a new idea for a training module, and now that process is being implemented. I am looking forward to setting more professional goals with Comrise in the future!

Within a year from now, where do you see yourself within Comrise?
In a year, I would like to keep learning, establish a solid routine, and continue to build relationships with my team. As part of my long-term goal, I would love to be more involved in the client-facing side of the business. That collaboration between the account executive and the recruiter, so I would also like to work toward building that understanding and relationship with the Account Executives as well. With my experience as a recruiter, I recognize that it is the foundation of everything you learn about the industry and with those experiences, you are setting yourself up for success. At Comrise, they prepare their employees to be successful and grow within the organization itself. Because of this, I will continue to stay positive, encourage my team members, and work toward becoming my career goals.

Which WeCulture core values are the strongest within your recruiting team?
Be Positive and Be Collaborative. My favorite thing ever is everyone comes in and says good morning and at the end of the day, everyone says goodnight. I know we are all here to do our jobs but not a single person neglects the fact that we are here as a team and to do well for Comrise. The environment you feel that support and encouragement in the office and it’s refreshing. And whenever I have a question I know I can ask any one of the team members and they are always there to help.

What other recommendations do you have for recruiting professionals in the industry?
Personally,  I am a recruiting nerd!  I’m really into reading blogs and articles on the subject and listening to podcasts on my commute. Specifically, with recruiting podcasts I learn from hearing other people’s perspective and tips on the industry. Whether you are a new or experienced recruiter, I recommend staying up to date on trending topics and changes in the industry.
