Our Top 12 Resume Tips
Our Comrise In-House Professionals have taken the time to share their favorite resume tips with our website visitors and candidates. We've created and compiled them specifically for our potential candidates to benefit. Writing a resume is an important step to your career search that can make or break whether you get noticed by that perfect employer. Here are our Top 12 Tips:
- Include detailed work experience and list a specific title, not just “Consultant?or “Associate?
- Required job skills should be listed on your resume, not only under the skills section, but in the work history.
- Always write a brief summary about your experience relevant to the job description. List only relevant information. For example, if the job asks for Java development, the paragraph should contain java development experience only. You shouldn't include testing or project management experience as that is not relevant to the particular job.
- Always list your education background, including major, university name and year of graduation.
- Describe your technical skills to the best of your ability. It is extremely important to include them.
- Make sure you do not just describe the project in detail, but also describe your specific responsibilities.
- Avoid using words like: “involved with ?". You should be specific and use other words to tell the employer how you were involved with the project.
- Keep the length of your resume to between 2 to 4 pages. Depending on your amount of experience, you should have more than 1 page on your resume. We recommend not going over four.
- Be sure to summarize all the technologies you are familiar with. This makes it easier on the hiring manager to verify that you have necessary qualifications.
- Include well-versed summaries under your work experience lists. Be specific with each responsibility you had and make sure it pertains to the job you're applying for.
- Save us all some time and leave off interests such as reading, skiing, etc.
- Including a cover letter with your resume is a great way to get noticed!
